Application:

Transformers based on our 135 size core are designed for a wide variety of topologies such as forward, half and full bridge, full bridge ZVS, and push-pull. These parts are used in 300W to 1.2kW off-line power supplies and DC-DC converters delivering up to 100 amperes for a single output or 20-40 amperes for multi-output magnetics. Applications vary from industrial and computer to military and space systems where high quality, reliability, repeatability and superior thermal management are of the utmost importance. Planar transformers and inductors based on 135 size packages have small footprints and low profiles, such as 0.500" to 0.750". Commercial transformers that require a minimum 8 mm creepage and clearance distances from primary to both secondary and to core have 0.250" bigger length with the same width compared to transformers used in military, telecom, and some industrial applications. Depending on the power rating, 135 parts can operate without any air flow for cooling. In this case, they must be attached to a base plate / heatsink with controlled temperature. Transformers operating close to or at a maximum of specified power limit have to be cooled by a combination of conduction and air flow. Transformers can be customized, and multi-winding coupled inductors are available.
